Rhinoplasty: Reshaping the Center of your Features

The Nose can either be an adornment or an impairment in one’s face. It is one of the most noticeable features of the face. In fact, for some, the nose is 80% of the mid-face beauty and it effectively dictates and affects the overall look of the face. A large droopy nose dominates and attracts unfavorable attention, while one that is proportionate with the other features is pleasing to many. This is why people are often conscious of how their nose looks like.

Having said that, more and more people want to undergo a nose job or Rhinoplasty. For the third consecutive year, this type of cosmetic surgery continues to be the most popular facial plastic procedure, according to a recent survey conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). In fact, young women, especially in Iran (which is considered as the nose job capital of the world), undergo this type of surgery to attain the “Hollywood” doll face with their “button-sized” noses. People who had their noses done often feel a boost in their confidence since they have achieved the look they always wanted. Even Michael Jackson admitted to have undergone two nose jobs.

Rhinoplasty or nose reshaping is among the most difficult cosmetic surgeries. It is also a state-of-the-art procedure that can transform a misshapen nose, sometimes dramatically, to a beautiful, proportionate one. Some will even be so realistic that other people won’t notice that a surgery has been performed. People undergo this procedure mainly for enhancement of features or to fix a broken nose. Others, like Ashley Tisdale of High School Musical and Jennifer Aniston of F.R.I.E.N.D.S., underwent this procedure because of medical need, such as nasal septum deviation. Since today’s Rhinoplasty is now more predictable, more accurate, and more effective, a good nose job will have a natural appearance that will be in harmony with other facial features. Take the nose work of Britney Spears, for example; it still looks natural even though she had it resized.

A nose job is usually done as an outpatient procedure or a one-day process. During an operation, the surgeon makes cuts within the nostrils or across the base of the nose. The surgeon then reshapes the inner bone and the cartilage to create a more pleasing appearance.

After a nose job, the patient will wear a nasal splint for the first week and will experience a bit of swelling and bruising around the eyes. It will then begin to improve after the third day but may last up to two weeks. The final shape will be perceptible after it has completely healed, which will be worth all the wait and pain as you will achieve the best look that you desire with your new nose.
